Free Wales Army Hat
The Eryr Wen - the White Eagle of Snowdonia - became the emblem of the Free Wales Army (FWA) in the 1960s, a movement led by Cayo Evans that fought to put Welsh identity, dignity, and self-determination back on the map. Their symbol drew on one of our oldest legends: the eagle of Eryri watching over Wales, waiting for the moment it is needed; the spirit of the Mab Darogan, the prophesied defender of the land.
During the sixties and seventies, the White Eagle and the FWA’s motto “Fe godwn ni eto” (“We will rise again”) appeared on walls, badges, leaflets and jackets across Wales, becoming a rallying cry for cultural pride and political awakening. And even long after the FWA’s active days ended, the emblem has lived on - a reminder of a fiery period in modern Welsh history, and of a nation that refuses to be quiet or small.
This hat carries that same spirit.
An army-green cap featuring a metal black emblem with debossed white enamel lettering, it nods to the original insignia worn by Cayo Evans and other members of the FWA - reimagined in a modern, wearable form.
Made from a 50/50 polyester–acrylic blend with a soft 100% cotton jersey lining, it’s built for comfort, durability, and a good dose of attitude. One size.
Wear it with pride. Wear it with purpose.
And wear it knowing the eagle still watches over Eryri - and Wales still rises.
