Glyndŵr & Sons Matches Poster
This poster is a mischievous nod to one of the more combustible chapters in Welsh history. Styled like a vintage 1970s magazine ad, it revives a fictional match brand - Glyndŵr & Sons - with a slogan that winks at an old Welsh saying about reigniting flames… and maybe also about second homes.
According to absolutely no official records, this advert first appeared in the summer 1979 issue of Cynnal y Fflam, a now-forgotten nationalist magazine. Allegedly. No one knows who made it. No one remembers printing it. And yet, here it is.
A cult relic? A quiet protest? A brilliant piece of satire? We couldn’t possibly say.
All we know is a stash of vintage matchboxes bearing the name were recently discovered in a lonely cowshed somewhere in rural Wales - and with each poster, you’ll get one free. Light responsibly.
